I was sadden and shocked to here of Michael's sudden passing. Michael was sincerely a very special person. I greatly admired him as knowledgeable medical professional as well as a genuine person. Michael had a great attitude. Every time I saw him he always was smiling and he talked about his hunting adventures and of course he love for his family. He was so proud of his turkeys but - Alisa and Aaron he beamed about you two and the life accomplishments you achieved and his precious grandchildren and of course Sharon you were indeed the love of Michael 's life. I will miss Michael but I know I will always remember him and the thoughts of him will bring a smile to my face. All my love, Barbie

My deepest condolences to the Phillips family. I grew up with Mike and his brothers in the Carry's Patch section of Ashley. He was a young man ahead of his time. Always a positive thinker, he knew what he wanted from life. Always friendly, he provided a lasting friendship to the kids in our section of town. Mike provided money to his friends for admission to the local movie house when we could not afford it. He was a fantastic baseball player who could hit the cover off the ball. On our local baseball field, he hit a ball in my estimation, that traveled in excess of 400 feet. When we got into our late teens, he knew who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and that is the beautiful Sharon Hannis. May he rest in piece.

I have known Michael and Sharon since 1965 when we started Nursing School together. My husband John met them in 1968. There are so many memories we have with Michael but the one that stands out the most was on Flag Day, June 14th 2002. In the early morning, Michael went out to hang his flag between two trees at the end of the driveway. When he got to the top of the ladder, he was just out of reach of the hook. As he jumped up to reach the hook, the tree which had rotted out gave way. Michael landed on the ground with a broken leg. He crawled into the house made a phone call then went to the hospital. After his leg was fixed, and in a cast, he went home. We were on our way from North Carolina to visit and planned to stay over night at the house. We were running a little late and called to give him our ETA. Did he say I broke my leg today and it would not be the best time to visit, No. He said we will be happy to see you. When we arrived and saw him in a wheel chair with a cast, we said we wouldn’t stay but Michael insisted. Then we went out to dinner at John’s Italian Restaurant. At the end of the evening, we watched as Michael made his way up the long narrow stairway to the second floor. Just use your imagination. Amazing! We will miss him very much. Our prayers to Sharon and their large family who he was very proud of. We were lucky to have known him and have him for a friend. With Love at this saddest of times. Priscilla and John Nelson.
