A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Church, 108 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel by Rev. Stephen Stavoy. All attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel. The Old Time Fiddlers will pay final respects to their friend John with a musical tribute at 6:45.

Interment: Maplewood Evangelical Cemetery, Maplewood

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maplewood Fire and Rescue Company, PO Box 527, Lake Ariel, PA 18436 or to the Old Time Fiddlers, 17 Fiddlers Lane, Equinunk, PA 18417.

John’s family, friends, and the Old Time Fiddlers family will miss him dearly.

John M. Wargo, Maplewood, died early Monday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton Intensive Care Unit after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elna Ovens.

Born in Dunmore on March 15, 1931, John was the son of the late John M. and Catherine Tropiak Wargo. He was a member of the Dunmore High School class of 1948. John was a devoted member of the St. Thomas More and St. Mary Parish Community. John had been employed as a loom technician for the former Jaunty Textiles, Scranton, and prior to his retirement, he and Elna developed and operated the White Birch Mobile Home Park in Maplewood. John was a charter member of the Maplewood Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the NRA, and a member of the Lackawanna County Audoboun Society since the age of 16. He was also a founding member of the Old Time Fiddlers, and his time spent playing guitar and singing with them was very dear to his heart. John served in the Unites States Naval Reserves.

Also surviving are an aunt, Eleanor Weiss of Lake Ariel; cousins; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by an infant sister, Christine.
