Robert Hertzog

Robert Hertzog, 91, Scranton, passed away Monday evening in the Green Ridge Care Center.   His wife of 66 years is the former Regina Cieplinski.

Born1933, in Laureldale, PA., he was the son of the late Lewis, Sr. and Sarah Wenrich Hertzog. He was a proud United States Navy veteran.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob took a job with IBM in Allentown as a customer engineer.  While at IBM, he received a fateful phone call from his neighbor about a furniture manufacturing company which was for sale.  The two purchased JM Speigel Furniture Manufacturing and this is when Bob’s love of woodworking flourished.   He also had a long and rewarding career as a builder in Lake Ariel, The Hideout, and the surrounding area.  He had a reputation of impeccable workmanship and honesty.

Also surviving are children Gregory and his wife Kathy, Debra Stevens and her husband Douglas, James and his wife Lynn and Steven and his wife Joan; siblings Rev. Edith Gettis and Lewis Hertzog, Jr. and his wife Ann; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his infant grandson Matthew James Hertzog; siblings Louise and her husband Harold, Marjorie and her husband Ernest and Paul; brother in law Robert Gettis.

Military Honors will be rendered Saturday June 8th at 2pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
