Rev. Gordon James White, Sr., 74, of Lake Ariel, PA went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 10 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He and his wife, Faye Crone White, had been married 45 years.

Gordon was born in Kankakee County, IL, to the late Chester and Lora White. He attended school in Roodhouse, IL, and graduated from Carlisle High School in Carlisle, KY. Gordon held degrees from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and the Assembly of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO. He also studied French at the Institut de Théologie Biblique des Assemblées de Dieu de France in Bièvres, France. Gordon received his French teaching certificate from Marywood University in Scranton, PA.

Rev. White began preaching at the age of 12 and pastored the Assembly of God church in Carlisle, KY as a teenager along with his guardian, Rev. Mae Blaney. His pastoral career included positions in Manchester, PA; Philadelphia, PA; and Littlestown, PA before his calling to Hamlin Assembly of God in Hamlin, PA, where he served for 22 years. He was a well-loved pastor and friend to many.

Over the span of his long ministry, he was blessed to combine his love of travel with his love of preaching. Rev. White’s calling led him to serve as missionary in Cote d’Ivoire and in Togo, West Africa, where he was president and teacher at Sada Bible Institute. While pastoring at Hamlin, Gordon led many mission trips in Africa, South America and Europe. After retiring from pastoring in 2009, Rev. and Mrs. White returned to France to serve as Associate Missionaries in Paris. Serving in France fulfilled one of Gordon’s life-long dreams of being a Parisian. Gordon loved the French language and the French people.

In addition to his wife, Rev. White is survived by his four children, Loralene White (Geoffrey Bado) of Cherry Hill, NJ; Maj. Gordon White, Jr. (Heather) of Colorado Springs, CO, Edward White of Lake Ariel, PA; and Rev. Brian White (Shawna) of Tulsa, OK; his six grandchildren; his sisters Ruby Gee, Connie Winner, and Vicky Dreschler; and several nieces and nephews. Gordon was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Cheadle, and two brothers, Eldon Roy White and Dan White.

Funeral Services will be Friday at 11:00am in the Hamlin Assembly of God Church Rt. 191 Hamlin.

Friends may call Thursday from 4:00-8:00pm and Friday morning from 10am until time of service.

All viewings will be held at the Church.

Interment will be Saturday in Mountain View Cemetery, Dover, PA.

Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Bridge International Church of Paris, France www.thebridgeparis.com.
