It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond A. Field, 71, of Lake Ariel announces his passing on Saturday after suffering a catastrophic stroke. Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Sandy Chippel Field.

Also surviving are two daughters Kelly Thompson and her husband Bridger, of Carlisle; and Heather Field, Lake Ariel; a brother Walter Field and his wife Peggy, Lake Ariel, a sister Joanne Koerner and her husband Keith, Hamlin; two grandchildren Will and Samuel Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother Randy “Sam” Field.

Raised in Hamlin, he was the son of the late Leland and Helen White Field. He was a graduate of Lake Consolidated High School. He attended Johnson Technical Institute and also received his Business Degree from Lackawanna Junior College. He was employed as an Operation Manager for Hess department store and prior to his retirement was employed by Dillon Liquidation. He and his wife are also owners of Field’s Used Furniture in Hamlin.

Ray was a decorated Marine Corps veteran who received three purple hearts while serving in Viet Nam. He received wounds twice trying to rescue other wounded Marines while in command of a platoon.  He would do anything for anyone, and spent most of his time helping family and friends.  Ray had a great love for hunting, and was an active member of the Lakeview Hunting Club, his favorite place to be. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his daughters and grandsons.

A funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Salem Cemetery.

An outdoors party to celebrate Ray’s life with his many friends will be announced at a later date.
