Rafael A. Fernandez, 80, of Lake Ariel, died Thursday afternoon at Ellen Memorial Healthcare Center following an illness. His loving wife of 52 years is Miriam Fernandez.

Born February 17, 1940 in Holguin, Cuba, he was the son of the late Artemio and Caridad Urquiola Fernandez. Rafael and Miriam made Elizabeth, NJ their home for many years where they raised their loving family. Prior to retirement, he was a manager for various cosmetic and fragrance companies. Locally he was a member of the St. Thomas More / St. Mary’s Parish Community.

Rafael was an avid golfer and member of The Hideout Men’s Golf League. He was also a member of The Hideout Bowling League and Woodworkers Club. Throughout his life he enjoyed skiing, boating, tennis and attending NY Giants football games as a season ticket holder. His other favorite teams included the NY Yankees and Miami Dolphins. Rafael’s greatest passion was always his family and friends. If you knew Rafael, you loved him.

Also surviving are his daughter Jessica Fernandez of Lewes, DE; son Rafael A. Fernandez, Jr. and his wife Alison of Fair Haven, NJ; brothers Orestes Fernandez of Cuba and Tony Fernandez of Miami, FL; grandchildren Alex, Matthew, and Sarah Fernandez; nieces and nephews.

Due to the current health crisis, services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Memorial contributions in Rafael’s honor may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
