Patricia C Leamy died peacefully at home in Lake Ariel, PA on October 31, 2014.

She was born on June 8, 1931, in Syracuse, NY, and was the daughter of the late Hilda H. and John Leamy. Ms Leamy grew up in Syracuse, NY, where she attended the Syracuse Public School system and the Convent School for Girls run by the Franciscan Sisters of Syracuse. She received her BA in Economics and Political Science from LeMoyne University, Syracuse, her MA in Reading Education from Syracuse University, her MA in Education Administration from the University of Scranton, and a Superintendent’s Certificate from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.

Pursuant to her degrees in education, Ms Leamy served throughout a span of thirty-five years as teacher, reading supervisor, and principal and ended her career as the Superintendent of the Western Wayne School District, Lake Ariel, PA. In her role as superintendent, Ms. Leamy instituted the pre-K and kindergarten programs, organized district curriculum and grade levels, and was instrumental in the construction of additions and/or renovations of several schools in the district. Additionally, she was an adjunct professor at Marywood University, the University of Scranton, Penn State University, and Temple University.

Leamy was a member of St. Thomas More Church and attended the parish mission church, St. Mary’s Visitation, in Ledgedale, PA, where she served as a lector.

Ms Leamy was a member of the Board of the North Pocono Girl Scout Association as well as the National Organization of Girl Scouts Board. She was appointed to the Professional Standards and Practices Commission by Governors Milton Shapp and Dick Thornburgh and served as the Chair of that Commission for three years. She was President of the Northeast Region of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John Diakiw, the staff at Mountain View Nursing Home and Traditional Home Health and Hospice staff who cared for Ms Leamy in her final days.

Ms Leamy is survived by her sister Donna Guinta, her nephews Joseph, Michael, John and wife Bonnie and David and wife Robin, her niece Denise Loerzel and husband Carl; a niece in law Tamara; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Joseph, her nephew Anthony and lifetime friends, Sisters Catherine Sugrue and Regina Barrett, IHM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Church Rd., Ledgedale, by Rev. Stephen Stavoy, pastor.

Friends may call at St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale from 9:00am until time of Mass at the church.

Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.

In lieu of flowers friends are asked to make donations to the IHM Sisters Retirement Fund at 2300 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
