Margaret (Peggy) Louise Anderson, 77, of Greentown, Pa, passed away on February 17, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. Born on February 2, 1947 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to the late Edwin and Marjorie Anderson, she attended school in her hometown, and went on to become a registered nurse with a B.S. in Public Health. During her nursing career she worked in intensive care, cardiac care, as well as dialysis in both New York and Pennsylvania.

Although fiercely independent and private, Peggy placed great value on home, family, and close friends. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, because it represented “family togetherness”, and she never turned down a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. She never married or had children of her own, however, Peggy loved her three nephews like a mom, and enjoyed being part of their lives as they grew up and had families of their own. She also enjoyed and maintained connections with a few choice friends who, over the years, held a special place in her heart.

Adventurous in spirit, Peggy had many interests including nature, travel, music, and science fiction. Her world travels included a tour of Europe, a sojourn in Egypt, the land of the pyramids, along the banks of the Nile, and a river boat excursion on the Amazon. With an eye toward the heavens above and the earth and sea below, she went on many other adventures which included Space Camp in Alabama, and whale watching off the New England Coast.

An avid reader, Peggy’s modest library spanned a myriad of topics and genres which reflected her intellectual and spiritual curiosity, her love of science fiction and space travel, as well as her appreciation for other cultures, especially native American and Ancient Egyptian. In the same vein, Peggy also delighted in collecting music and memorabilia from concerts and craft shows, as well as various folk festivals and conventions she loved to attend.

Peggy’s journey to faith mirrored the same fierce independence as the rest of her life. After years of wrestling with her own questions of faith, through the continual fervent prayers of family and hearing preaching of the Word, in 2004 she came to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Although occurring later in life, she became a faithful student of the Scriptures, and her relationship with Christ was an integral part of the last 20 years of her life. She became a member and regularly attended Grace Bible Church in Dunmore with her family. She found strength and solace with Jesus in her final struggle with cancer.

Her love for nature and respect for God’s creation led her to adopt and be “mom” to three kitties (Gabi, Libby, and Davi Rose) who brought her great joy.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Chapin, brother-in-law, Peter Chapin, and three nephews, Peter Jr., Philip, and Jonathan.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Grace Bible Church in Dunmore at 11am on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

In lieu of flowers make donations In her name to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Clarks Summit PA.
