Lieutenant Colonel United States Army (Retired) Conrad J. Provencher, 92, Greentown, formerly of Red Bank, New Jersey, died Saturday morning in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness.  His wife of 64 years is the former Doris Yvonne Bourassa.

Born 1923 in Lawrence, MA he was the son of the late Antonio and Delia Auger Provencher.   He was a graduate of the St. Annes Heritage High School, Fordham University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and the University of Southern California where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Management.  A man of strong Catholic faith prior to entering the military Conrad was a Marist Brother.  While living in Red Bank, New Jersey and attending St James Church, he became an ordained deacon. Currently, he was a member of the St Thomas More St Mary’s Parish Community.   Prior to his retirement he had been employed by the United States Postal Service as a safety officer.  Conrad was a 23 year veteran of the United States Army serving as a helicopter pilot in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.  He was a Prisoner of War during the Korean Conflict and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War.  For his efforts and valor in battle he earned the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star medal among various other medals and distinctions.

He was a man who was fluent in many languages.   He was a member of the Fordham University Alumni Association and the Knights of Columbus in New Jersey.

Also surviving are daughters Doris “Wendy” Leddy and husband Stephen of Milton, DE, and Carol-Ann Moccio and husband Ralph of Ocean, NJ, sons Joseph and wife Cindy of Duluth, MN, Frank and wife Linda of Goose Creek, SC, Tom and wife Josephine of Marlton, NJ and Patrick of Greentown;  daughter in law Anne Provencher of Milton, VT;  many grandchildren; one great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Dennis and eleven siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9am in the St. Thomas More Church 108 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
