June A. House, South Canaan, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after a brief illness.   Her husband Carl was by her side, having been married for 67 years serving the Lord together.

Born in Moosic, PA in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Vernice Enslin Maines.  She was born again at the age of 13 under the influence of Pastor R. J. Lucy, and became active in church youth group. She was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School Class of 1955 and Rutgers University at the age of 50. In between these graduations, she & Carl raised 3 children, helped start Hope Baptist Church in NJ, and she completed a 6 year evening Bible School Certification course at Central Jersey Bible Insitute. After many years as a teacher’s aide, June became a Special Education teacher in the East Windsor School District, NJ. June loved teaching, and those she taught and worked with loved her. She especially loved teaching the Bible to children. June led an after school Bible Club with Child Evangelism Fellowship in their home for many years, playing the piano and challenging the kids to memorize Bible verses for prizes. She taught Sunday School and VBS with a heart that all would come to know Jesus as their Savior.

June was a faithful and devoted part of Canaan Bible Chapel where she served at church on the Ladies Auxiliary Committee,  preparing countless meals for people through the years, many from the produce of their own garden. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and VBS as well as CEF classes. June was always available for people, a “mom” and “grandmom” to many, besides her own 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren! June loved crafting and quilting, and taught her daughters and granddaughters how to sew.   She was well known and loved for her hospitality, cooking and hosting family, friends and missionaries in their home. June & Carl were involved in Nursing Home Ministries in NJ and PA, and were active in the Gideon Organization for 12 years.

June’s legacy includes her daughters Julie Gibbs and husband Steve, Amy Bowen and husband Jasen, all of Huntington Beach, California; daughter-in-law Leslie House of Titusville, Florida; grandchildren Heather (Andres), Ashley (Aaron), Alissa (Luke), Rebecca (Caleb), Taylor (Samantha), Caitlin, Carson, Kenan, and Levi; great grandchildren Brendan, Riley, William, Daniel, Ford, Nova, Brynlee, Levi, Elise, Arya, Elena, Joanna, and Gabriel; and nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her beloved son Larry House; brother George Maines; sister-in-law Beatrice Maines; nephew Mark Maines.

Visitation will be on Sunday at Canaan Bible Chapel from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 11, at 10am at Canaan Bible Chapel, 30 Hemlock Rd., Lake Ariel.

Interment will be at East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan.
