Joan S. Loscig, South Canaan, passed away early Saturday morning at home after an illness. Her husband of 54 years is Gerald R. Loscig.

Born in South Canaan, she was the daughter of the late John and Leah Van Sickle Swingle. She was a graduate of the former Lake Consolidated High School and was a faithful member of the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan. Prior to her retirement, Joan worked as a beautician, taught at a beauty school and also worked as a teacher’s aide.

She was a devoted wife and mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and it brought her joy to serve others in His name. She enjoyed decorating her home, painting and sewing.

Also surviving are a daughter Renee Murphy and her husband James of South Canaan; a son Jeffery Loscig and his wife Linda of Lake Ariel; a sister June Baker of Florida; brothers Charles and Lawrence Swingle both of South Canaan; grandchildren Ariana Sprague, Kelsey Madden, Katelynn Loscig, Quinlin Murphy and Lauren Loscig; great grandchildren Evan and Alyssa Sprague and Lean and Zachary Madden; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Theodore Swingle.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11am in the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan 19 St. Tikhon’s Rd. South Canaan with Rev. William Rushik, pastor officiating.

Friends may call Monday from 4-7pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and on Tuesday morning from 10:15 until 10:45am in the East Room of the church.

Interment, Simon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan 19 St. Tikhon’s Rd. South Canaan, Pa. 18459 or to the Wayne Memorial Hospice 601 Park St. Honesdale, Pa. 18431.
