Harry A. Moore, 81, of Hamlin, died on Sunday August 26, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness. His wife of 60 years is the former Dorothy Stevens. He was born in Hamlin on July 30, 1937, son of the late Ivan and Freda Hollister Moore.

He attended the Hamlin School House, leaving school in 8th grade to work on the family farm. He was able to calculate math in his head faster than a calculator. Prior to retirement he was an employee at Chapman Supply, Chinchilla Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Hamlin Assembly of God Church, Hamlin Pennsylvania, serving as past board member and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Harry was ordered to active duty training in the United States Army in November 1960, earning the rank of Sargent E5. During his service he received the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal along with expert Marksmanship. Honorably discharged in March 1964.  Harry served on the Salem Township Pennsylvania Board of Supervisors from 1982 until 2001. He was a founding member of the Snow Explores Snowmobile Club, which meet at his house regularly. The current snow rescue sled that Hamlin Fire and Rescue uses in the winter was originally dispatched from his house, then donated to the fire company.

His passions included working on lawn mowers, watching NASCAR races, and attending Modified Dirt races. He also spent many years hauling gravel and dirt from his quarry after work at Chapman Supply. In 1986 Harry and Tim, his son built what is now Moore’s Collision. His daily routine included breakfast at his daughter’s restaurant, North Pocono Bagel and Restaurant, then he would spend many hours at the shop with his son. This time spent included working with Tim on various projects and giving Tim pieces of his knowledge. Diana is known usually referred to as Harry’s Daughter.

While his only granddaughter, Ashley, was in school he would pick her up from the bus and have dinner waiting on the table, which usually included her favorite meatloaf. No one else can make it the same. At an early age Harry had taught Ashley to drive his golf cart. He also enjoyed spending time with his only Great-Granddaughter, Addison, taking her for ice cream. Affectionately, known as Grandpa M.

Also surviving is a daughter Diana Trygar and husband Richard, Jr. of Hamlin; son Tim Moore and wife Linda of Hamlin; granddaughter Ashley Trygar Parry and husband Josh of Hamlin; great-granddaughter Addison Trygar; nephew Larry Chapman of Texas; nieces Joann Tomassoni, Jill Butler, Sheryl Hollister, Linda Sapack, Michelle Hineline, Amy Frey; several great nephews and nieces
