Douglas R. Schneider of Lake Ariel died Sunday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a brief illness. His wife was the former Ruth VanSickle who died in 2012.

Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late William and Hazel Frisbie Schneider, he was a member of the Free Methodist Church of S. Canaan and had worked as a Corrections Officer.

Surviving are a daughter Diane Schneider of Lake Ariel; sisters Adeline Griffiths of Syracuse, NY and Madeline Nahlen of Jessup; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers Henry, Adolph, and Paul Schneider; and a sister Sarah Frisbie.

Also surviving are his brother-in-law & sister-in-law Walter & Janet Testa;  niece Janell Yzeik and husband John; and brother-in-law Paul Howe.  Special grandson Josh Yzeik who always called him and made his day; special grandson Jeremy Yzeik who he was so excited to see him pitch at baseball games; adopted grandchildren Lindsay Dapsis, who he adored, and CJ Walker who he was so proud of.  These four people were very special to him.  His many friends who were so faithful to him and helped him – niece and nephew Linda and Larry Hackley; friend Vicki Smith; and friend Tom Walker.

He just loved people.  He was a giver, not a taker.  He loved his animals.  He religiously fed the squirrels, birds, deer, and turkeys.  He loved to sit in his chair and look out his window.  All through his illness he was always strong.  He had a strong faith in the Lord.  He was the best friend to everyone he met.

To my Dad, I am heartbroken, you were everything to me.  I will miss you so much, you were the best father.  You suffered and tried to live for me.  I will always save my last message from you, “hello, this is your father, where are you?”.  You always worried about me.  “Drive slow Diane” will always stick in my mind.  I told you to give me a sign you were with Mom and I saw a cardinal Monday, so thank you for that.  Love you and will see you and Mom in a wink.  I know all your buddies, cats, and dogs, were there to greet you.

A Memorial service will be held Friday, December 9 at 11:00am in the Free Methodist Church of S. Canaan 19 St. Tikhon’s Church Rd. S. Canaan, PA 18459 will services by Pastor William Rushik.
