Dennis Barillo of Lake Ariel passed away unexpectedly Saturday July 28, 2018 at home.

Born in 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Helen Maletsky Barillo, Lake Ariel, and the late Joseph A. Barillo. He was a devoted member of Hamlin Assembly of God Church.

Dennis was a loyal son to his mother, Helen, who he cared for and could be seen driving her to the markets in his convertible with the roof down, no matter the weather. His love for his mother was exemplified when in 2017 he arranged for a surprise 100th birthday celebration and made sure her name was mentioned on a nationally televised morning TV show.

Dennis was a man of many passions and his love for life and in all things that interested him. His hand carvings of wooden crosses with the name Jesus spelled out are an example of his passion for our Lord as he self taught himself how to carve wood.

His other passions included motorcycles. Whether he was riding alone, with his brother Ronald, Sr. or his nephew Ronald Jr,, Dennis found peace and pure joy sitting on top of his Harley and his grin could be seen by anyone going in the other direction.

In his later years Dennis turned to his passion for chickens and fresh eggs. He kidded with everyone as he gladly shared his bountiful eggs that his Farmer Barillo eggs were the freshest in the County. While his chickens and rooster became a part of his household with his mother, Dennis’ true love was Bella his beautiful German Shepherd who watched over Dennis, Helen, and the chickens and rooster. The two companions could be seen driving all over in his 4Runner.

Dennis was a licensed real estate salesman and his focus was the beautiful Hideout. In 2018, ReMax honored Dennis with the Multi-Million Dollar Producer Hall of Fame Achievement Award. As one of the top real estate salesman ever for multiple years, everyone in The Hideout knew Dennis because they purchased, sold or rented their homes from him but also because he watched over them with his large billboard with his larger than life face strategically placed on the highway. Dennis lived life large and his billboard was a reminder to all to do the same.

Dennis loved his large family from his nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, and New York. Whether hunting with his cousins from New Jersey or riding motor cycles, driving his cars, taking care of his chickens, helping someone find the right home in The Hideout, spending quiet time with his dog, or caring for his mom, Dennis’ love for his heavenly father abounded. He will be deeply missed.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Helen Maletsky Barillo, Lake Ariel;  sisters, Sondra and husband, David Varoli, New Jersey; Lorna Gilpin and husband, Donald, Lake Ariel; and a multitude of nieces and nephews including locally based Ronald Barillo Jr.; Glen Barillo and wife, Jennifer, both of Lake Ariel; Karen Barillo Kowalczyk and her companion, Daniel Krol, Honesdale.

Dennis was preceded in death by brothers, Ronald, Sr., Gary and Bruce Barillo.
