The viewing will be Sunday the 17th from 2-5 at Canaan Bible Chapel; 30 Hemlock Road; Lake Ariel. The funeral will be Monday at 10, with Rev. Daniel Henwood officiating.  He will be laid to rest beside his beloved Virginia at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Canaan Christian Academy Trust.

Leroy Clare Madden

July 10, 2022

Clare Madden, 90, went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2022.

Born in Hamlin, to the late Leroy A. and Inez Corrine (Shaffer) Madden. He was a graduate of Lake Consolidated, class of 1950. He went on to serve in the army from 1954-1956 as a Specialist 4; spending 1 year in Germany as a tank mechanic. He returned home to continue a life of farming with his parents. He was a dairy farmer, who received the Dairy of Distinction Award from Dairylea.

A bubbly and outgoing man, he spent his life making his own community better. He served as a deacon for Madisonville Christian Church. He served on the board of Hamlin Elementary. He went on to be a founder and board member of Calvary Christian School.  He was made a lifetime member of the GDS Fair. Finally, he served as the Chairman of the Salem Township Park Commission and member of Canaan Bible Chapel until his death.

He was preceded in death by stillborn son, Stephen; granddaughter, Amber Madden; wife of 61 years, Virginia (Shreck) Madden; and son-in-law, Timothy Gillow.

He is survived by 2 sons: Keith and wife Josie; Timothy and wife Laura; and 3 daughters: Luann Sverduk and husband David; Dawn Mountain and husband William; and Regina Gillow. He was also blessed with 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
