Betty Layland Stoner,73, of Maplewood, passed away Wednesday, December 20,2023 at home surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of 39 years Kenneth Stoner.
Born in Williamsport Pa she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Liz) Kizer Layland. Betty was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School in Lake Ariel PA (Class of 1968) and the Pennsylvania State University (Class of 1972)
For 35 years Betty dedicated her life to her career as an English teacher at Western Wayne High School. During those years she ran stage crew, volunteer club, photography club, newspaper club and also a union/association president for years. After retirement Betty stayed involved with Western Wayne alumni with her Facebook page where she kept in touch with her former students and coworkers.
Betty was well known and loved for her dedication to her students and her career as a teacher and mentor.
Betty devoted her time and love to her surviving nieces Sherry Mead Swoyer (Darryl Swoyer, Sr. Husband) of Maplewood and Amanda Mead Kakareka (Bob Kakareka. Husband) of Madisonville
She had 3 great nieces Coral (Derrick Shaffer Husband) and Sabrina Swoyer and Valerie Kakareka; 6 great nephews Austin (Samantha Franklin. Companion), Darryl Jr., Dakota and Derek Swoyer and Wally and Virgil Kakareka.  Betty also had 2 great great nieces Rylee and Maddie Swoyer.  She showered her family with love and was always there for them.
She was proceeded in death by her sister Diane Mead.

Private cremation took place at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
