Angelina Rose Freda, 19 of Lake Ariel passed away on January 15, 2021 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Glen Cove New York she is the daughter of Anthony Freda and Lisa Caltagirone Freda. During her cancer treatments, Angelina worked hard to get her high school diploma and graduated with the Western Wayne class of 2020.

Angelina had an eye for art and loved music and dancing. She danced with the Greentown Dance Studio and also twirled with Lynettes twirlerettes. Angelina’s main passion in life was to help people and animals. Angelina loved goats and hoped to have a pet goat one day. She also vowed to save the sea turtles. The plastic in the ocean made her very sad. She hated plastic straws and would let you know about how it affected the turtles. Angelina also volunteered at an equestrian center in Coconut Creek, Florida for adults with disabilities. She would assist in and out of the arena so these people could enjoy time with horses. It gave her great joy.

Angelina loved the beach and loved being with her family and friends. Friday nights were reserved for football games with her friends from Western Wayne HS. Angelina also loved Halloween, one of her favorite holidays only a week after her birthday and every year it was that much more special to celebrate both days. It would become a tradition to go to the Waymart Halloween party in the park night. We’d have hot cocoa and visit with friends and have fun.

Angelina loved to travel and enjoyed seeing many different cities and learned other cultures. And although Angelina is from Long Island, NY, it was the Big Apple that caught her eye as a young adult. She loved fashion, the arts and food so much and NYC had it all. Angelina also thought of attending college in the city, one of her passions was Psychology. Outside of NY, Angelina’s heart and soul belonged to Lake Ariel, PA where she moved with her family in 2004 during her middle school years Angelina ran cross country and played the flute. In high school she played ultimate frisbee and enjoyed the annual senior art display. Art was part of her heart and soul. Angelina loves ice hockey and proudly would wear one of her New York Ranger’s jersey to school. In Pennsylvania that was always a bold move. Her teachers had fun with that too and would wear a Penguin jersey. Angelina touched many lives and has inspired many. She is a beacon shining down on us all.

Surviving is a brother Michael Benvenuto, and niece Isla Dean Benvenuto of Bethany, PA and a sister Stephanie Freda of Long Island.
