Obituaries » Amanda Elizabeth Schmitt April 20, 1986 - March 8, 2018 Burial Date March 17, 2018 Friends and family will be received at 409 26th street, Altoona, PA on Friday, 3/16/18 from 1pm to 7pm. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, 3/17/18 at Juniata United Methodist Church led by Pastor T.R. Hardic. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made the Human Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania, 2407 Zimmerly Road, Erie, PA 16506. Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Amanda Schmitt, 31, Erie, went to be with the Lord on Thursday March 8, 2018 in her home. She was born in Altoona on April 20, 1986 to Thomas Schmitt and Denise Katz. Amanda was a 2004 graduate of Altoona Area High School. She went on to attend Slippery Rock University where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Reading Specialization in 2008. Amanda loved teaching and helping her students to become not just better readers, but better people. She had a passion for animals and was involved in fundraising and supporting local animal shelters. In her free time Amanda loved spending time with her family, traveling, and being on Lake Erie and was an avid fitness enthusiast. She continues to live on through her father Thomas and his partner Robyn Confer; Mother Denise (Katz) and stepfather Andrew Katz; brother Brandon, sister-in-law Ivannette, and niece Sofia; sisters Allison and Vanessa; stepsister Anna Shaw (Brian) and stepbrother David Katz; and grandmothers Elizabeth Davis and Patricia Schmitt; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfathers Arthur Davis and Carl Schmitt. Friends and family will be received at 409 26th street, Altoona, PA on Friday, 3/16/18 from 1pm to 7pm.
