Michael J. Gershey, 97, of Lake Ariel, died Monday morning at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center following an illness. His wife of 31 years was the former Alma Roessler Gershey who died in 1999.
Born in Scranton on September 12, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Mary Winkler Gershey. A graduate of Lake Consolidated School Class of 1939. Prior to retirement he was an electrician for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. A faithful member of the St. Thomas More / St. Mary’s Parish Community. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in WWII.
Surviving are step-sons William Gershey of Lake Ariel, Dr. Robert Gershey of East Dover, Nova Scotia, James Gershey and Michael Gershey of Baton Rouge, LA, and Donald Gershey of Lake Ariel; step-grandchildren Air Force Second Lieutenant Joshua Gershey and family of Hanover, MD, and Zachary Gershey of Lake Ariel; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by sisters Vera Krall, Anna Mendicino, and Margaret Mott; brothers John Gershey, Thomas Gershey, Joseph Gershey, Stephen Gershey, and Rudolph Gershey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10am in St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel by Rev. Stephen Stavoy, Pastor.
Friends may call from 9am until the time of the mass at the church.
Interment, St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Throop.
