Mary Marcella Norvilas, of Mt. Cobb, died Saturday at Scranton Healthcare Center following an illness. Her husband of 53 years is Joseph J. Norvilas.
Born April 10, 1945 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Zugorski Margelis. She was a graduate of Holy Rosary High Class of 1964 and a graduate of the Victor Comtommeter School in Scranton. She worked as a secretary at Consumers Coal Company, Scranton; and after 30 years of service to Mercy Hospital she retired as a lead housekeeper.
Mary was involved in numerous organizations including Past – President and Secretary of the Jefferson Elementary School PTA; Past – Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack #133, Jefferson Twp; Charter Member of the Jefferson Township Lioness Club where she was a Past – President and Secretary; she served as the Jefferson Twp Auditor for two years; and she co-founded and served as Secretary of the “Friends of Lithuania” social club in Scranton. She was a Past – Member and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher at St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church, Scranton; and a member of St. Eulalia’s Parish, Elmhurst, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Also surviving are a son Joseph Norvilas, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Mt. Cobb; daughters Michelle Kausmeyer and her husband Rocky of Scranton; and Suzanne Crandall and her husband Nicholas of Clayton, NJ; a grandson Joseph C. Norvilas; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Sperrazza.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10am at St. Eulalia Parish, 214 Blue Shutters Rd. Roaring Brook Twp., to be celebrated by Monsignor John W. Jordan.
