Donna Matthews of Honesdale died Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital following an illness. Her ex-husband is Thomas J. Cantirino III. Donna grew up in Eltingville in Staten Island NY where she was the daughter of the late Edward and Rita Cook Matthews. She met Thomas Cantirino and married in 1976. They resided in New Dorp Beach then moved on to Midland Beach Staten Island, NY which is where they started their family. They lived here together until approximately 1997 before they separated and then she moved to NJ and spent some time with both her sister and brother for a few years. From here she then moved to Peach Bottom PA to live with her son before finally moving and settling down in Honesdale PA in 2014. Throughout her life she had a variety of careers. She began as a switch board operator in lower Manhatten for international charter services. After a few years she decided to start her family and take off sometime to raise her children. When she decided to rejoin the workforce she chose some different career paths, she worked as a secretary for the law firm of Corash & Hollander in Staten island, then on to various medical offices before settling in a the Staten island medical group HIP as a medical assistant and receptionist.
Surviving are daughters Sabrina Cantirino and Leigh-Anne Hnatko and her partner Raymond Felmly; a son Thomas Cantirino and his partner Bridgette Lamborn; sisters Julie Coccoli and her husband Richard and Janet Cahill and her husband Gary; a brother John Matthews and his wife Betty; grandchildren Michael Ray, Alexis Cantirino, Marcos Baez, Daniel Hnatko, Casandra Hnatko, Stephanie Felmly, Alexander Felmly, Andrew Felmly, and Thomas Cantirino; a great-grandson Peyton Ray; nieces and nephews John, Jeffrey, Jill, Jimmy, Richie, David, Sarah, and Veronica. She enjoyed: cooking, music, dancing, walking, working in her flower garden and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and caring for her grandchildren. She was a very caring, nurturing individual. She was well liked by all who crossed her path. We will remember her for her unconditional love, her incredible strength, her determination her positive attitude through everything, her laugh and her contagious smile. She will be missed dearly by all. A celebration of life will be at a date and time to be announced. Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
