Vincent A. Michko, 99 of Sayreville, NJ, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 from natural causes. His wife of 72 years, the former Helen Zomro passed away in 2019. Born in April 14, 1923 in Olyphant, Pa, he was the son of the late August and Margaret “Maggie” Wano – Michko. At the age of 6, he and his family moved to Lake Ariel, Pa where he helped on the family farm. At the age of 14, he volunteered at a lookout tower in Varden for enemy planes during WWII. In the winter, he worked at Duck Harbor in Maplewood, Pa, cutting ice cubes for ice boxes for the city families. Also, he was a lumber jack for Underwood Coal Mine Company in Jessup, Pa, until he joined the service in 1944. He was in the United States Army from 1944 – 1946 serving in Panama for 18 months. After returning from the Army, he worked as a janitor for St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. On June 14, 1947 he married Helen Zomro and lived in Lake Ariel until they moved to Sayreville, NJ in 1949. He went on to work at Sayre & Fisher Brickyard as a forklift operator for 21 years. When it closed, he took a job at Tenneco Plastics Co., Inc. in Edison, NJ where he was an end man for 16 years. In 1986, he retired and returned to the family homestead in Lake Ariel, Pa. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his property. He also enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He took great pride in the many cars that he owned. He was a Life Member of the Thomas A. Snook VFW in Cortez, Pa. Since 1951, he was a member of Our Lady of Victories Church in Sayreville, NJ. He was a loving father to his children James Michko and his wife Patricia Bruzlk of Newton, NJ, Sharon Gray and her husband Martin of North Brunswick, NJ, Lawrence Michko of Sayreville, NJ, and Edward Michko of Old Bridge, NJ.; grandchildren Donald Gray of North Brunswick, NJ, Jeffrey Gray of Old Bridge, NJ, Christina Chamberlain and her husband Michael of Old Bridge, NJ, Michelle Gray-Albaret and her husband Alex of Old Bridge, NJ, Kaitlyn and Allison Michko of Newton, NJ, and Amanda and Britney Michko of Old Bridge, NJ; He adored his three great grandchildren Meghan Gray and twins Lauren and Daniel Gray; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Michko, August Michko; sister Anna Margaret Michko, and infants Elizabeth, Wilma, August, Jr. and William.
