William E. Bond, 91 of Lake Ariel, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at home. Bill was a devoted husband of 66 years to Jeannette (McKee) who was the love of his life.

Bill was born September 10, 1931, in Roosevelt, NY. He was the son of the late Thomas and Eileen (Casey) Bond. He was the proud descendent of Irish Immigrants and the last surviving member of a large family and preceded in death by one sister and six brothers.

He was a graduate of Hempstead High School, NY. He completed a four year apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Electrician. Prior to retirement, he was an electrician for IBEW Local 25 Electrical Union in New York. He was a faithful member of the St. Thomas More / St. Mary’s Parish Community. He was a United States Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War.

He enjoyed playing local baseball for many years and for the US Coast Guard in Key West, FL. Bill enjoyed boating with his brother Ken in the Long Island Sound. When Bill retired to the Poconos, he coordinated every detail of the house he had built, always thinking of how it would accommodate all the family. He was an avid golfer who particularly enjoyed playing with his son-in-law Dave and grandson Kyle. When first retiring he enjoyed participating in many clubs such as gardening, bowling, and woodworking. He also enjoyed swimming in the lake with all his family.

Bill was a doting father to four children, his daughter Linda Glessner and her husband David of Lake Ariel, his daughter Colleen Bond and her companion Steve Forbes of Downingtown, Diane Reilly and her husband Tim of Connecticut, and a son Brian Bond of Long Island, NY.  Bill was an adoring grandfather to 10 grandchildren: Leeanne and her husband Travis, Jamie and her fiancé Taylor, Casey and his wife Casey, Kyle, Seamus, Cassidy, Bridy, Brogan, Alyssa, and Amber. Bill cherished his 2 great-grandchildren, Walter and Patricia. Bill was also a beloved “Uncle Billy” to many nieces and nephews.

Bill was kind, thoughtful and especially generous. He was always doing for others and rarely sat still. Even a blizzard wouldn’t stop him from getting the newspaper and milk. Bill loved to tell stories and make everyone laugh. Whenever leaving after a visit, you were sure to get a special snack for your ride home. Bill was simply the best husband, dad, grandpa, and grampy ever. He was appreciative of every moment and always put his family above all else. He will be remembered fondly and with a smile by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, Pa on Tuesday, May 16th at 12:00 pm.
