WARREN WHITFIELD BARNES, JR., 85, born December 28, 1930, in Hackensack, NJ passed away on June 5th at the home of his daughter in Blooming Grove, PA surrounded by his family.

Mr. Barnes was an award-winning general contractor and developer in New Jersey and North Carolina. Whatever it was, he loved to build it or fix it, and he taught his children “how to build it right or fix it right.” He was a kind, gentle soul, who adored spending time with those he loved. He treasured his friends and doted on his family and his dogs. A perfect day began in his garden, moved on to cruising in his boat, wetting a line, and then entertaining friends into the wee hours – a Dewar’s on the rocks in his right hand.

The legacy of Warren’s kind spirit, passion for friends, love of family, and zest for life will live on in all who knew him.  He will be missed more than words can say. His presence lit up any room he entered, and the twinkle of his beautiful blue eyes made everyone smile. He was beyond a fine man.

Surviving Warren is the love of his life, Maryanne Germaneso Barnes, his wife of 59 years, brothers Richard Barnes and Fred Barnes, and sister Doris Dall’Ava.  He is also survived by six daughters and one son: Carol and Warren Beuschel and Diane Len of Bedford, VA, Karen and Gary Schmoeger of Middletown, NY, Warren and Angelica Barnes of Tomball, TX, Winifred and Worthington Linen and Katie and Mitchel Gray of New York, NY, and Jennifer and Bryan Mangan of Overland Park, KS. Warren was blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Wilmington, NC.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his wife, Maryanne Barnes. Those wishing to sign the guestbook may do so online at www.Legacy.com.
