Roger Mitschele, Sr., 83, died Sunday July 6th at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA.

Born in Livingston, NJ, he was the son of the former Livingston Mayor and City Committeeman the late Herbert J. Mitschele, Sr. and Mary (nee Cannon). Raised on his father’s dairy farm, he later worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction. Roger and his late wife Mary moved the family to Morris, PA in 1971 where many happy years were spent farming and raising beef cattle before moving to Greentown, PA in 1985 to open Pike County Concrete and Springbrook Sand & Stone in Lord’s Valley, PA with his sons.

He retired from the family businesses in 1993. After Mary’s death, Roger went back to working with his sons, daughters and grandsons at the sand & stone quarry.

Roger was an avid outdoorsman and loved riding horses well into his 80s. Before his death, Dad told us he had a good life and no regrets. His wife and children were the most important things in his life. He told people that his greatest pride and his children, and loved to tell you about them. Dad taught us the meaning of family, and how to stay united in good times and in bad.

He is survived by his sons Roger, Jr. and his wife Marie of Greentown, PA and Keith and his wife Tina of Lords Valley, PA; daughters Sue Mitschele and Kim Mitschele both of Greentown, PA; 5 grandchildren Ryan Mitschele, Kyle, Kate, and Kody Mitschele, and Matt Ovens; 4 great-grandchildren. His late daughter Sandy Mitschele and wife Mary have greeted him in Heaven.

The family held a private ceremony and placed him next to his wife at Fairview Memorial Park Mausoleum, Elmhurst, PA.

Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel, PA.
