A Private ceremony will be held in Pennsylvania where she will join her Mother and her husband Jack Gallagher.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rita’s honor to: Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park St. Honesdale, Pa 18431.

Rita M. Gallagher – Fitzgerald, 93 of Scotch Plains NJ, passed away peacefully and into the arms or Jesus on Friday January 22, 2021 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. R

Rita grew up in the High Park section of Scranton Pennsylvania moving to NJ in her 20’s.

She will be deeply missed by her surviving daughters Mariteresa Daugherty of Lake Ariel, PA whom she was cared for with such amazing grace and fortitude, for the past several years. Her Daughter Maureen Coleman and husband John of Warren, NJ and her daughter Sharon Gallagher of Virginia. She is also survived by her dear daughter-in-law Terry Gallagher of Virginia.

Rita is predeceased by her first husband, John Gallagher, and her second husband, Richard Fitzgerald. She is also predeceased by two of her beloved children son John Gallagher and daughter Patricia Scrymgeour and her husband Frank.

Born in Scranton, and the last surviving child of nine of the late Joseph and Josephine Fitzsimmons Halloran. Prior to moving to Lake Ariel, PA Rita was a longtime member of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Scotch Plains, NJ. Prior to retirement, she worked in a variety of jobs always very hard working. Rita was nonstop in her effort to continually keep the entire family together and happy with her unwavering love and support. Rita enjoyed spending her summers at their lake house with family, cousins, many nieces and nephews on Lake Winola in PA. She also loved cooking for everyone that ever entered her home, Especially her 14 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and refurbishing anything she got her hands on. Not to mention her uncanny bargaining abilities. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Rita has taught the family togetherness, love, perseverance, forgiveness and determination. Rita truly had a beautiful soul and will be desperately missed by countless people.
