Richard “Dick” L. MacAvoy of The Hideout, Lake Ariel died Friday at Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital. His wife is the former Mary Meaden. His first wife Joan died in 1972.

Born in Newark, NJ, son of the late Louis A. and Alice Guidera MacAvoy, he was a firefighter for 26 years in Newark, NJ and He owned Dependable Window Cleaning Service in Clark, NJ. He earned an associate degree in Fire Science and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was an avid golfer, current member of the Hideout Golf Committee, the H.D.A. and also volunteered as a ranger at the Hideout golf course. He was a great Irishman and proud of his heritage. He was known as the “Mayor” of the Hideout. He loved his grandchildren and his dear friends of 70 years Gene Lear and Robert “Dee”DeAngelo.

Also surviving are a daughter Cathy DiFabio and her husband Joseph of Clark, NJ; a step-son Michael Palella of Seagirt, NJ; step-daughters Concetta Palella of Phoenix, AZ and Laura Bazarian and her husband Andrew of Hong Kong, China; grandchildren Cayla, Cathleen, and Carolyn DiFabio, Dina Cintura, Alyssa Palella and Michael Palella, Jr., Drew, Alexandra, and Christian Bazarian; a sister Mary Ellen Kenealy of Spring Lake, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Paul.

All attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church 150 Terrace St. Honesdale.

Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00-7:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Cremation will follow the Mass in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation at www.wish.org or the Wounded Warriors Program at www.woundedwarriorsproject.org.
