A celebration of Reba’s life will be held Monday at 4pm in the Cortez United Methodist Church 967 Cortez Rd. Cortez by Rev. Art Yetter, pastor.

Friends may call Monday from 3pm until time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cortez United Methodist Church, the Maplewood Fire Company or the charity of your choice.

Reba P. Lown, Cortez, died unexpectedly early Thursday morning at home after being stricken ill.  Her husband is Loren “Skip” Lown.  The couple was married April of 2007.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Reba Giles Sherman, Reba attended West Scranton High School. Reba was a professional seamstress,  she worked for Katz’s in Honesdale, Umholtz Manufacturing in Tresslarville and at Ames’ Department Store.   She was a faithful Methodist attending both the Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and after it’s closing, she attended the Cortez United Methodist Church.

Reba and Skip loved to travel. They visited 47 states, they had a few favorites they returned to annually. Reba and Skip shared many hours working side by side in their beautiful gardens. Reba enjoyed sewing, baking and in her younger years square dancing and snowmobiling.  Most of all, Reba loved her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all who are blessed to have known her.

Also surviving are a daughter Bonnie Carney and her husband John of Lakeville; a son William Ovens, Jr. and his wife Michele of Maplewood; step sons Loren “Larry” Lown and his wife Jean Marie of Cortez, Ron Lown and wife Mary Ann of Delaware and Roger Lown and wife Loren of Philadelphia; sisters Norma Harwzinske of Syracuse and Ruth Ferraro of Archbald; grandchildren Catrina Wolfe, Sean Carney, Matthew Ovens, Heather Rubino, Megan Arvonio, Jillian Cerutti, Jessica  Milewski and Kelly Lown;  eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers George “Dutch”, Ray and Roy Sherman; sister Nelda Storm; a step daughter-in-law Mary Lynne Lown.
