Matthew Diehl of Waymart died Saturday at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center following a battle with cancer.  His wife of 16 years is the former Brenda Brown.

Born in 1980 in Scranton, he was the son of Doris Shaffer Mellan and her husband Paul of Scranton and Donald Diehl of Hamlin.

He was educated in the Western Wayne School District and prior to his illness he had been working in the Receiving Department at the WalMart in Taylor.  He was a member of the South Canaan Free Methodist Church.

He fought the best he could but sometimes cancer finishes the fight for you. He has been through so much and he was suffering for so long. Matthew Diehl you were by far the best husband, father, son,  brother, uncle, nephew, friend, loving, caring, and brave person.  This list could go on forever because of the man you were. The girls and I will never forget you. You live in all of us. I just want you to know I love you and my heart will have a permanent break. It’s not goodbye, it’s I will see you soon.  Watch over us and protect us, I know you will always be with us. I will miss you every second but I’m so glad I got the last  16 years to call you mine. It’s an honor that you picked me because you were one hell of a man!! God has one hell of an angel on his side,  let’s hope you can still keep up with your girls. Fly high hunny, you deserve rest and relaxation.

Also surviving are his beloved daughters Daisy Lynn and Molly Lynn;  brothers Donald of Carbondale and Keith of Scranton; a sister Meghan of Scranton;  his in laws Dennis and Linda Brown of Waymart; a brother in law Adrian and his wife Mary;  uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
