Mary Joan “Joan” Cobb was born in Lake Ariel on October 10, 1929. She was the daughter of the  late Joseph T., Sr. and Lucy Lake McDonnell. Graduating from Lake Ariel High School in 1947,  she attended Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale before embarking on a successful  sales career in Harrisburg and York, with the Reuben Donnelly/ Yellow Pages.

In January 1968, while visiting her family in Lake Ariel, her red hair caught the eye of Walter
Cobb and by March, the city girl returned home and married the local small town, small
business guy. In a true Hallmark Movie scenario, they enjoyed nineteen wonderful years in a
loving and happy marriage.

She began her second career in Wayne County working at Isabelle Dunne’s Tax and Accounting
in Honesdale before moving on to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where she
spent eighteen years.

She and Walter had a second home at Lake of the Isles at the Thousand Islands on Wellesley
Island, NY. After Walter’s passing in 1987, she continued to maintain and enjoy the property
for many years, spending summers enjoying family members who also lived nearby and
entertaining other family who visited often.

Joan spent time with her many local friends and favorite pastimes of Red Hat Luncheons, Bingo
and occasional trips to the casino

Joanie passed away peacefully at Ellen Memorial Skilled Nursing on November 29, 2024,
following a brief illness at the age of 95; living on her own until then with assistance from
nearby nieces and nephews.

McDonnell and Michael McDonnell, all of Lake Ariel. Patti McCullough, Bloomsburg; Kathy
Massino, Mechanicsville VA, Marty McDonnell, Bumpass, VA; Gerald Kennedy, Scranton; Mary
Lu Haynie, Somers Point, NJ, Joan Besen, Clarks Summit; Gwen Lopez, Dallas, TX and John

Carol Kish of Florida and step-granddaughter Terry Fong of California.

She was preceded in death by siblings Eleanor Kennedy, Joseph T. McDonnell, Jr.,
