Mark A. Pappas, 61, of Greentown, died Tuesday at home after a nearly six year battle with ALS. His devoted wife of 38 years is the former Teresa Walsh.

Born in Dickson City, son of the former Theresa J. Janeczek Pappas of Lakeville and the late Anthony V. Pappas. He was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh Valley University.

Mark and his wife Teresa directed Ledgedale Recreation Area on Lake Wallenpaupack. Mark was the co-owner of Ledgedale Boat Storage, and also owned and operated van transportation for both Wallenpaupack and Western Wayne School Districts. He was an active member and once president of the Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce, and actively involved in the relicensing of the dam, resulting in a long-term presidency of the Lake Wallenpaupack Recreation Council. He was also involved Marine Trades Association and a member of the Shoreline Sub-Committee.

He had a passion for Penn State football, boating and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, and was always willing to give a helping hand. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, who would say he had an enormous smile, laugh and heart .

Also surviving are his two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie; sisters, Debra Fabri and her husband Elliot of Shippenville, PA, and Sharon Sowers and her husband Lars of Coplay, PA; brother-in-law Gregory Misiura of Hop Bottom, PA; nieces and nephews Linda Misiura and wife Stephanie Nowotarski, Christine Misiura, Gregory Misiura, wife Alexis and son Cooper, Elliot Fabri and wife Sarah, Lauren Fabri and Quentin Sowers.

Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Pappas Jr, his nephew, Anthony “Tony” Fabri, his sister, Joan Misiura, and his father Anthony V. Pappas.
