The heavens brightened on November 14th 2021 with the addition of Marie Barton.

A dearly loved spouse for 51 years, loving mother, devoted to family, cherished aunt, beloved great aunt, and forever friend, Marie sprinkled her presence wherever she went. Marie emanated joy, and her quick wit was ever present.

The heart of her life belonged to her husband Eugene (’98) and her beloved children Carol (’16) and Bobby, who cared for and survives her today. Marie’s love for her family resounded in how she modeled unconditional love, strong beliefs and steadfast patriotism. Her great faith helped her to traverse some very difficult times, including waiting, watching, and praying for the safe return of Eugene during World War II, brother Dominick during the Korean War, and her beloved son Bobby from Vietnam. She never wavered in honoring our American heroes.

Marie’s family includes deceased parents Carmine Anthony and Fannie Donato, siblings Dominick (’96) (Claire ‘12), Samuel (Dolores ’16)) and Anthony (Ronnie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, all of which she thoughtfully remembered whenever she could.

Marie had numerous talents, gifts and skills that she generously shared with others. Her professional life included work in the banking, retail, census and small business arenas using her gifted skills as an impeccable seamstress, regarded baker and strong interpersonal skills.

She found her calling when she worked in service to others. Her most loved career was as a school bus aide attending to children with special needs. With Eugene as the driver, they were an amazing team! Later, after several moves from their Rosedale NY home to Penn Yann, Unadilla and Middletown NY, she and Eugene settled in Jacksonville, Florida. It was here that they made their home during retirement.

Marie lived her faith by choosing a life of service. She cared for her mom in her later years, and attended to Eugene as he battled Alzheimer’s. She continued to serve others in the communities she lived and especially through Holy Redeemer church in Jacksonville, Fl. Marie cared for the priests there (especially Father Tom), and she organized events, worked food pantries, called BINGO at the nursing home, sent holiday cards to people in residential facilities and gave to others wherever she could. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00am in St. Mary’s Church, 334 St. Mary Church Rd. Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Monday from 9:00am – 10:30am in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.

Memorial Contributions in Marie’s memory may be made to: Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
