Our beloved mother, Lorraine Whalen (née DeGrasse) was called home Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021.

Born June 8, 1933 to Helen and Howard DeGrasse, in Brooklyn, NY.

Predeceased by her loving husband Arthur and daughter Susan. Survived by children Diane Reilly, Kenneth Burger (Lois), Laura Cassamassino (Anthony) and Judy McLaughlin (Tom).

Longtime resident of Brooklyn, NY and parishioner of St. Ephrem Church. Known as Momma Rain, Grandma and GiGi, she was loved and adored by her 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Lorraine was the epitome of strength and independence. She had sacrificed so much for her family over the years and did everything she could to help during tough times. Lorraine loved being around her family and friends and always looked forward to playing Bingo with her friends at the Senior Center.  She loved going to casinos, playing cards (especially winning), scratch off tickets and writing funny little poems for everyone’s birthdays.

Lorraine loved listening to Roy Orbison, Tina Turner, reading the New York Post and was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees. She will forever be in our hearts and terribly missed, but knowing she is at peace now brings us great comfort. As Tina Turner sang, she was “Simply The Best.”

In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated in her memory to Hospice of the Sacred Heart 600 Baltimore Dr. Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702

Date and time of Mass of Christian Burial to be announced at a later date.
