Leda “Lydia” Mae Benko Hale Hathaway, 79, of Lake Ariel ,died peacefully Sunday at her home with her daughters Linda Hale and Lisa Hale along with her grandson John Hale at her side. She was the wife of the late Dr. EJ Hathaway.

Born in McClellandtown Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Benko. She was one of sixteen children. Lydia worked beside her husband as a veterinary assistant at their business “House Call Veterinary Service”. She and her husband also established the Hamlin Rotary Club.

In her life she was an accomplished ballerina and model. She traveled the world with her husband. Lydia also loved spending time with her family and being surrounded by her many animals. She was devoted to her religion as a Russian Orthodox.

She is survived by two daughters Linda S. Hale of Florida and Lisa K. Hale of Lake Ariel; six grandchildren Leah Mae Kendall of Florida, Laina K. Hale of Florida, John B Hale of Lake Ariel, Nicholas and Susanna Hale of Florida, Dimetri Q. Hale of Florida, and David M. Jones of Georgia; and three great grandchildren Lilliana Hale, Anastasia Hale, and Oliver Hale all of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lori Ann Hale.

Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and under the direction of James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
