John P. Edwards, Cortez, died Wednesday in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife of 47 years is the former Nancylee Swoyer.

Born in Cortez, he was the son of the late Lawrence, Sr. and Florence Strackbien Edwards. He was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church. Prior to his retirement John had been employed as a truck driver for the RR Wilmot Co.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

The family would like to thank Dr. James McKenna for his dedicated care and compassion shown to John.

Also surviving are his beloved daughters Lisa Ann Edwards Kosciuk and her husband Joseph, Jr. of Cortez, Carollee Edwards-Keating and her husband Joseph, Jr. of Mt. Cobb and Johnine Ullner and her husband Paul of Lake Ariel; brothers Fritz of Cortez, Ronald of Panama City, FL and Harold “Ping of Germania, PA.; five grandchildren Joseph and Nicole Kosciuk, Kaitlyn and Megan Keating and Avery Ullner; five great grandchildren Jadyn, Josh, John, Julia and Aubrianna; nieces and nephews among them are John’s special niece and nephew Ayanna and Brian Kelly.

He was also preceded in death by a sister Betty Kelly.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 1pm in the Hamlin Volunteer Fire Company Banquet Hall (located behind the Fire Company) Route 590 Hamlin.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 3pm.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
