John J. Ruby, 79, of Lake Ariel, passed away Monday morning at home after an illness. His wife of 56 years is the former Dolores Marie Atcachunas.

Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Tellish Ruby. He was a graduate of the Old Forge High School and was a graduate of Johnson Technical School. John was a veteran of the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, John was employed by Techneglas, Pittston, as a machinist. After his retirement, John enjoyed working as a school bus driver for the Western Wayne School District. He was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish, Lake Ariel.

John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Also surviving are his children: Cindy Szeliga and husband, Mark, of Dupont; John J. Ruby III and wife, Laura, of Lake Ariel; Joseph J. Ruby and wife, Ann, of Endwell, NY; and Cheryl Ruby of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Hannah and JJ Ruby, Erika and Brian Ruby; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joni Ruby.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Gilhooley and Sacred Heart Hospice for the care provided to John. John’s family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Kazmierski for the compassionate care given to John and his family.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-7pm on in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10am in the St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Entombment with Military Honors will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center Resident Welfare Fund, 401 Penn
Ave. Scranton, PA 18505.
