Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00am – 11:00am in the Church.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

John George Martinkovitch, Jr., 87 of Ledgedale, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, sons, and daughter-in-law, on April 12, 2023. He was born February 27, 1936, to John and Mary Zilla Martinkovitch of Throop, PA.

John graduated from St. Paul High School, Scranton, PA in 1953, and in 1954 joined the United States Air Force. Following his five-year term with the Air Force, he pursued his career further at the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Kansas. In 1961, John joined the Peace Corp. and went to Tunis, Tunisia, where he met his wife Carol Hirsch also a Peace Corp volunteer. They were married in her hometown of Evansville, Indiana, in 1964. Shortly after marriage, Johns career took them to West Africa-Guinea and Senegal, where he operated as automotive engineer and heavy equipment mechanic for the Dept of USAID and an Administrative Officer for the Dept. Of Agriculture.

Upon returning to the US in 1971, they became residents of Lake Ariel, PA. There John was a successful small business owner for 45 years at Marty’s Garage. He was instrumental in various community organizations throughout his life, including the Ledgedale Fire Company, Knights Of Columbus, Liturgical Ministries at St. Thomas Moore as well as projects with the Wayne Country Historical Society.

John was predeceased by his parents John and Mary. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol, his sister Ann Ferguson of South Carolina, 2 sons, Joseph Martinkovitch and wife Emily, and Tim Martinkovitch, all of Lake Ariel, his grandchildren Jenae, Gunnar, and Ellie, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Emergency Response crew and ICU team at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
