Joan Knickerbocker, 91, Lake Ariel, passed away Friday morning in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit after an illness.  She was the widow of Donald L. Knickerbocker.

Born in New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Borodin Radonis and was educated in New York Schools.  She went on to study and become certified in shorthand.  Joan went on to work for the NYPD.  Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Ceasar’s Pocono Resorts.

Joan had an incredible spirit and was fiercely independent.   She was an 11 year stroke survivor which robbed her of the use of the majority of  her left side .   She loved to shop at Wegmans, cook, be on the computer and text message her family, especially using emojis.  She will be deeply missed by her family.  They will be her biggest fans always and forever.

The family would like to thank physicians and staff at Geisinger CMC, Dr. Ferdinan J. Manahan and staff,  along with the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the loving, dedicated and compassionate care they afforded Joan.

Surviving are her daughter Joanie Deneen of Lake Ariel; a grandson Nicholas Deneen of Lake Ariel; a granddaughter Kelsey Deneen and her  fiancée  Shannon McCabe of Williamsburg, Virgina; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Stanley Radonis and her beloved dachshund Raisin.

Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
