Jeffrey L. Howell, Jefferson Twp., died unexpectedly Tuesday after being stricken ill.  His loving and doting wife of 33 years is the former Diane Hicks.

Born in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Donald Howell and Roena Noble Howell Brown.  He was a 1975 graduate of the Western Wayne High School where he was a member of the first football team which he and his friends formed.  After graduation Jeff entered the work force and he was currently employed by the Nivert Metal Supply Company where he gained so many wonderful friends.

Jeff’s passion was racing. The racing tradition began with his father’s interest in the sport. Jeff and his brothers kept their father’s racing number of 49. Jeff and his two brothers love for the sport grew stronger and closer as they continued racing and working on cars, distilling the love and passion into their own children. Jeff began his son Tim racing at the age of 11, putting every free minute and dollar creating that passion with his son that Jeff so deeply enjoyed. Jeff was Tim’s number one crew chief and number one fan, never missing a race, always in the garage waiting for someone to come in and turn a wrench or share a story or just sit and have a coffee. He was one of the kindest and most generous man many came to know. He accepted everyone, enjoyed just sitting and shooting the breeze. He was a man of many close and true friends. He loved his son with every fiber of his being, he then was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren who his love grew and became even deeper. He loved being poppy. He loved his family. Jeff will be so missed by so many people, he truly was a man worth missing.

Also surviving are his son Tim and wife Kate of Jefferson Twp;  his sister Mary Ellen Buckingham and husband Dave of North Carolina; his brother Delbert Howell and Morningstar of Hamlin; grandchildren Max and Peyton;  nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Donald Howell.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Saturday from 10am until time of the service.

Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to support WNEP-TV’S Ryan’s Run c/o Allied Services Foundation, 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit Pa 18411.
