James O. Rosengrant, Cortez, passed away peacefully Saturday morning in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a prolonged illness.   He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 45 years, Jeannette “Jean” Carlyn Adley who died in 2002.

Born 1932 in Lake Ariel, he was the son of the late Walter and Florence (Sachse) Rosengrant.   He was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and upon graduation began working delivering dairy milk in New Jersey.   While delivering milk he began testing milk which led him and his family to move back to Pennsylvania.   Until his retirement he continued testing milk and also working for Sire Power.

Jim was a dedicated and lifelong member of the Cortez United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities among those being a member of the Board of Trustees and was very active in all of the fundraising activities to support the church he loved.  He was also a devoted and active member of the Maplewood Fire and Rescue Company where he and his wife volunteered on the ambulance.  Along with his church and fire company memberships, he also held a membership in the Junior Mechanic Hall Lodge.

He served our country in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany for 14 months where he operated a directional finding radio using morse code.  For over 40 years, he and his family, as well as numerous other family members and friends assisted his brother Julius and his family at the Wayne County Fair at “Nina’s Spaghetti Stand.”  He enjoyed bowling, putting puzzles together and especially loved his grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

Surviving are his daughter Cheryl Lewis and her husband Ray of South Canaan; sons Dean and his wife Patricia of Lake Ariel and Wayne and his wife Laura of Hawley; brothers Alfred and Ronald both of Lake Ariel and Steward of Wysox; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his son James Keith; grandsons Michael Keith Rosengrant and Benjamin Roderick Lewis; a sister Kathryn Harris; brothers Harry, Julius and Lloyd.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel by Reverends Art Yetter, Daniel Henwood and Nicholas Schweinsburg.

Friends may call Thursday from 4-8pm.

Interment with military honors will be conducted in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
