George Maines, Lake Ariel and Arizona, passed away Sunday in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit with his beloved companion Patricia L. Arrigan by his side.

Born in Lake Ariel, George was the son of the late Edward W. Maines and Vernice Enslin Maines.                       .

He was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and loved spending time raising bees. fishing and boating.

His best friend Doodle and George were riding a motorcycle when a car forced them off the road, causing serious injuries and destroying the vehicle.  George and Doodle were reunited a few days before Doodle died.

George loved our country and tried numerous times to enlist in the military but due to a health condition was declined enlistment.   George worked in the railroad industry as a lineman for Conrail and the Erie Railroad Companies.

George became a stone mason and built his home in Lake Ariel before he married Beatrice Rielly.

George, Bea and their son Mark loved restoring antique cars.  They joined the Antique Club of America and received two Grand National awards as well as several preservation awards.   George judged several of the competitions.

When George turned his focus to building a career in home building, remodeling and woodworking, he was a perfectionist in his craft.  He was a craftsman, engineer, and artist all in one.  His excellent work can be seen throughout Wayne County.

George was a wonderful man who had a heart of gold and a terrific sense of humor.  He will be dearly and deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

Surviving are his companion, travel partner, best friend and one of the greatest loves of his life of over 20 years is Patricia Arrigan; sister June House and her husband Carl; nieces and nephews; countless friends.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife Beatrice, his son Mark and his nephew Larry House.

As per George’s specific instructions, services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
