George E. Olson, of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Lake Ariel PA passed away on Friday December 21, 2018 after a long illness. His daughters and wife Grace of 64 years were by his side. He was 86 years old.

Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of late Arold Olson and Elizabeth Ludwig. Prior to retirement he was an Engineer for the New York Telephone Company. George was a US Veteran who served in the Korean War.

On October 24, 1954 he married his long-time sweetheart Grace Sasso in Queens, NY and started their family. George was trained as a radio repairman during his time serving in the U.S. Army. He went on to utilize these skills accepting a position with New York Telephone starting as an entry level splicers helper. At the end of a 32-year career George had risen to the position of senior Engineer. His proudest accomplishment was leading the project to redesign the telephone system for the Empire State building in NYC. Upon his retirement he was presented with a replica of the building to commemorate this work.

George and Grace retired to Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania and enjoyed golf and activities within their WLE community. George also enjoyed counted cross stitch. Many of his works hang proudly in his home and family homes.

In addition to his wife Grace, George is survived by his five daughters, MaryJean Olson of Newburgh, NY, Bettyann Stypulkowski and her husband Stephen of Ozone Park, NY, Barbara Schott and her husband Joseph of Warwick, NY, Margaret Myers and her husband Wayne of Prattsville, NY, and Carol Schorno and her husband Scott of Newburgh, NY; grandchildren Alicia, Timothy, Amanda, Frankie, Jennifer, Emily, Sam, and Anna; great grandchildren Noah and Arya; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Arthur Olson.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, Pa.
