Evangeline (George) Swingle, Wife of the late Rev. Theodore Swingle of Lake Ariel, PA passed away on April 27, 2021 at her daughter Sandy’s house in Corfu, N.Y.

She is survived by the following family, and friends whom she loved very much: Children: Sandra Lee (Swingle) Neubauer and husband, Robert Neubauer of Corfu, New York, Doris Rebecca (Swingle) Bronson and husband, Timothy Bronson of Round Rock, Texas, and Cindy Sue (Swingle) Stratton and husband, Mark Stratton of Dayton, Ohio; 8 grandchildren: James Neubauer and Gina , Jon Neubauer and wife Laura, Lauren (Neubauer) Ceglia and husband Jake Ceglia, Joshua Bronson and wife Kaiting, Kristin (Bronson) Cassidy and husband Bruce Cassidy; Cory Stratton and wife Kirsten, Ryan Stratton and fiancé Jasmin, and Brandon Stratton and wife Natalie; 5 great-grandchildren: Rebecca and Maximus Cassidy (Kristin and Bruce), Claire Stratton (Cory and Kirsten), Violet Neubauer (Jon & Laura), and Thea Neubauer (James and Gina); brother-in-law Harold Baker, sister-in-law Betty George, brother-in law Lawrence Swingle, sister-in-law Shirley Swingle, and several nieces and nephews, all dear to her heart.

Vangie, daughter of the late Wilbur and Esther (Wright) George was born at White Haven, PA where she lived until she was ten years old. Her family relocated to Hop Bottom PA and she attended school at Nicholson from fifth grade through High School. She was elected president of her high school class three years in a row and graduated with honors. At her graduation she received a special award from the faculty and staff, for being the most outstanding student in her class. After graduation, she attended Roberts Wesleyan College near Rochester, NY, where she met the ‘Love of her Life’, a ministerial student, who became her husband. Both Ted and Vangie (as she came to be called) completed formal education at other colleges with Ted earning two majors. He was an ordained elder of the Free Methodist Church and with extra education to teach history or math in public schools. One of his appointments was to pastor a small church in the little town of Windsor New York, where he also taught High School math to supplement the salary from the church. Vangie worked as an examiner for Broome County Social Services at Binghamton. She thoroughly enjoyed her job of examiner and a Pastor’s wife. Their appointments took them to churches in Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania. In preparation for Ted’s retirement, they moved to Pennsylvania in 1980 where Vangie was hired as the first Customer Service Person at the First National Bank of Lake Ariel. She was promoted to Branch Manager at Lake Ariel Branch until she retired. She loved her customers. After retiring, she took a job of Administrator at the church in South Canaan where she was a member, and held other offices as well. She loved God and people! If she could, today she’d say, “Goodbye Precious Family and Dear Friends. I love you!”

The funeral will be May 29, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan with Rev. William Rushik officiating. Interment – Simon Cemetery, South Canaan, PA.

There will be a meal following the funeral at the Waymart Hotel. If you plan to attend the meal, in order to help us plan, please private message either Sandy Neubauer or Cindy Stratton using Facebook.
