Elizabeth “Betty” M. Corey, Lake Ariel died late Sunday night at home after being stricken ill. Her husband of 46 years was Charles N. Corey died in 1994.

Born in Scranton in 1927, Betty was the daughter of the late Elmer and Eva Spangenberg Case who along with her infant sister Eva perished in a house fire in Scranton.   She and her sister Mildred survived the fire and were raised by their uncle and aunt Sidney(Hick) and Ida Polley.   She was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hollisterville.

Betty was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was a very generous person who lived her life for her family, friends and Church community. She kept in touch with many lifelong friends. Every year, around Christmas, she looked forward to getting the family together and cooking for everyone.

Surviving are her children David and his wife Georganna (Gann) Corey, Kenneth and his wife Debra Corey, all of Lake Ariel, Charles and his wife Robin Corey of Mt Cobb, Susan Hughes and her husband David of Hollisterville; her sister Mildred Whitby of Scranton;  grandchildren Amanda Shaffer, Kristina Legge, Ken Corey, Kimberly Dickey, Bobby Simyan; great grandchildren Deian, Mason, Ieuan, Gethyn, Felicity and Nathaniel;  nieces and nephews, as well as a cousin James Kobesky who was like a brother to her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at Noon in the First Baptist Church of Hollisterville 23 Pond Rd. Hollisterville with Pastor James Sheridan, officiating.

Friends may call 10am until time of service in the church.

Interment, South Canaan Bible Protestant Cemetery, South Canaan.
