Dorothy Tufano of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates died Wednesday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit following an illness. Her husband was the late Patrick “Bud” Tufano who died in 2014.

Born February 19, 1932 in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late John and Alice Kenny, she attended St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish. Prior to her retirement, Dorothy was an executive secretary in the Huntington, New York public school district at the Jefferson Elementary School.

Dorothy loved playing cards and mahjong and was an avid quilter. She also loved to travel with her husband, family and friends.  Dorothy enjoyed family gatherings and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a wonderful woman, mother and friend who will be missed by everyone.  Some of her activities included participating in the WLE Women’s Club and was formerly a member of the St. Mary’s Rosary Altar Society.

Surviving is her sister, Carol Hannah and husband James of North Carolina; sons Paul, Charles and his wife Sandra, all of Sterling, and John of Lake Ariel; a daughter Kathleen Peterson and her husband Rick of Pocono Lake; a daughter-in-law Maureen Westphal of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Michelle Wheeler, Christopher, Sean, Brandon, Alexander, Alyssa, and Joseph Tufano and Michael Peterson; great-grandchildren Emily and Sabrina Wheeler; a niece Patricia Fix and nephews James and John Hannah.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Mary’s Church, 305 St. Mary’s Church Rd., Lake Ariel.

Anyone attending the Mass is kindly asked to go directly to the Church Tuesday morning.

Friends may call Monday from 4:00-7:00pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, 18436.

Cremation will follow the Mass in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Church/St. Mary’s Parish P.O. Box 188 Lake Ariel, PA 18436 or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart 600 Baltimore Dr. # 7 Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
