Doris Esther Martin of Greentown died February 5th at home following an illness. Her husband was the late Dr. Edward Martin, Jr. of Johnstown, PA who died in 1975. He was Chief of Anesthesia at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown, PA.

Born in Greentown August 17, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Malinda Schreer Marsch, She was a graduate of Greene/Dreher Sterling School, Newfoundland and Germantown School of Nursing in Philadelphia 1942. She was a veteran of the United States Navy earning the rank of Lieutenant. She was stationed in post war Japan as a Navy Nurse where she was one of two woman known to have climbed Mt Fuji in Japan at that time. After leaving the Navy, she was a longtime resident in Johnstown. After her husband passed Doris worked as the Utilization Review RN in Johnstown prior to returning to Greentown. She was active in the hospital auxiliary where she served as president of  Mercy Hospital Guild. Upon her return to the area she also worked in Carbondale Hospital for several years prior to her retirement.

Surviving are her son Dr. Jeffrey Martin and a loving granddaughter Erica Martin and grandson Christopher Marsch Martin.

She was preceded in death by a sister LTC Nelly G. Marsch, USA, (Nellie) as she was known to her friends.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held Saturday May 16th at 11:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. William Rushik.

Friends may call 10:00-11:00am.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.

Interment, Moravian Cemetery, Newfoundland.
