Dolores Marie Ruby, Lake Ariel, passed away Friday morning at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John J. Ruby, the love of her life, who passed away in 2014. At the time of his passing they had been married for 56 years.
Born in 1936 in Scranton, Dolores was the daughter of the late John and Anna Stanavich Atcachunas. She was a graduate of the former Scranton Tech High School. There she was active in sports but her passion was ice skating at Nay Aug, where she would meet her future husband. She was employed as a personal secretary.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her generous and kind spirit will never be forgotten. She adored baking and would make delicious baked goods for all of her family and friends. She loved fishing and boating on Lake Wallenpaupack and was a true lover of all animals, especially her cat, Dusty, who never left her side.
Dolores was a devout Catholic who lovingly embraced Saint Mary and Saint Ann. She was a dedicated servant of the Lord at St. Thomas More Parish, Lake Ariel, and St. Mary’s, Ledgedale. She volunteered for many years, devoting her time to decorate the churches and church grounds for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. Dolores also served as a Eucharistic minister, CCD Teacher, member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and member of the church choir. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Kazmierski for the dedicated and compassionate care he provided to Dolores. Also, special thanks to neighbors and friends who supported and loved Dolores throughout the years. Their thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
Surviving are her beloved children: Cindy Szeliga, and husband Mark, Dupont; John J. Ruby III, and wife Laura, Lake Ariel; Joseph Ruby, and wife Ann, Endwell, NY; Cheryl Ruby, Lake Ariel. Her beloved grandchildren: Hannah Price, and husband Russell, Scranton; John J. Ruby IV, Rochester, NY; Erika Ruby, Endwell, NY; Brian Ruby, and wife Katrina, Pittsburgh. Brother: John Atcachunas, New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister Joanne Brady.
Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
