John Ashley was one of the reasons we were willing to drive an hour each way to have our children be part of the Canaan Christian Academy family. My husband and I believed that he truly loved our kids as much as a non-blood relative possibly could, but more than that, he lived a life before them that we wanted them to emulate. He was passionate about his love for his Lord and lived with his focus on eternity. He was joyful almost all of the time and never was in a hurry when he was talking to students. He was generous with his resources and his time, always taking a sincere interest in the lives of those around him. We will miss him but know that he is rejoicing in the presence of his Savior. I Thessalonians 4:14 - But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

John was a good friend, and I looked forward each year to our fishing trip on the river. I will never forget on one of the trips the the look on his face when when he jumped out of the boat and sunk above his knee's in the mud at low tide. I will miss him ! till I see him again with our Lord and Savior Gary G.

Although John was my rival coach from our competitor school and we only got the chance to talk 1/2 dozen times a year, I found myself unable to hold back the tears when I heard the news of his passing. He was my Christian brother and not only did he care for his students and players he always asked about how my former players and kids. He would mention them by name and I knew he was sincere. I did see him get fired up from the bench a few times (that reminded me of myself) but this just showed me he had passion for getting everything out of his players. He will be missed greatly. Mr. Ashley was a great teacher and a great coach who definitely made a positive impact on me in high school. He truly cared for everyone he crossed paths with on a daily basis. So sorry to hear of this loss. Thinking of Mrs. Ashley in this tough time as well... - Heath

Psalm 46:1-4, 10-11 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. These verses brought me comfort this morning in the midst of this sadness.

Our dear friend John, you left us so soon, but I know where you are. Save in the arms of Jesus. You were my favorite person to listen to when you preached. No fluff and nonsence , just a good ol' preach. Thank you and Holli for all the love you have shown to our family. YOU made a difference. Until we meet again.

Mr.Ashley was my teacher mentor coach and friend at F.B.C.A . It saddens me greatly to know such a great man was called home as early as he was. Rest easily in the love of our Lord. You will be missed here on earth

John will be surely missed by all who had the honor to know him. It was a privilege to know John in my coaching years. Our schools played each other and we all had a love for each other. Many prayers and comfort for his wife. He was a blessing to all...til we meet again John.
