David Donald Clauss, 57, of Lake Ariel died Friday, April 8 at home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. His wife of 32 years is the former Regina Fink.

Born in Lake Ariel, he was the son of Jane Macdonald Clauss of Lake Ariel and the late Peter Oliver Clauss. A graduate of Western Wayne High School, he was a member of St. Thomas More Parish.  He worked in construction his whole life, first alongside his father at C & D Builders of Lake Ariel, and then with his brother Peter at Clauss Construction of Hawley.

In service to the community, he was a dedicated member of the Lake Ariel Fire Company.  He spent 14 years as chief, and also held the positions of Assistant Chief and Trustee.  He was recently honored by the fire company for his 42 years of service.

David was a man who lived by his word and had a strong devotion to his faith. He was dedicated to his craft, knowing his work was an extension of himself. David grew up in a close-knit family in Lake Ariel and always stayed near its shores throughout his lifetime. Summers were spent boating, skiing and swimming, while winters made way for ice skating and fishing. All the while, he worked to make a home with his wife and two sons. In fact, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Many happy hours were spent supporting his sons in their sporting endeavors, sometimes as a coach, but always as their biggest fan.

David’s passions included a love for his country and seeking out the voices that shared his own views, hopes, and needs for America to represent what he thought was best. He would never tire of a political discussion and inspired many debates. He touched so many in the way he lived his life, and will be remembered as a great husband, father, son, brother, uncle, chief, coach and man.

The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Eric Blomain, Dr. Lynn Schuchter of Penn Medicine, the staff of NROC, Dr. Lisa Thomas and staff of Hematology Oncology Associates, and the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their loving and compassionate care.

Surviving are two sons, David Charles and Andrew Ryan of Lake Ariel; five sisters and four brothers; Mary Jane Corcoran and husband Timothy of Clermont, Florida; Peter and wife Margot of Tafton; Paula Isaacs and husband Charles of Annapolis, Maryland; Dr. Patrick and wife Grace of Lake Ariel; Peggy Quayle and husband Dale of Santa Ana, California; Robert of Lake Ariel; Carol Gardner and husband Steven of Santa Ana, California; Timothy and wife Rosanne of Lake Ariel; and Heidi Clauss of Lake Ariel. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law; Charlene Ottenger, and husband Joseph of Allentown; Brenda Payne, and husband Paul of Bloomsburg; and Susan Blower and husband Bud of Archdale, North Carolina, as well as thirty three nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews. David will be deeply missed by his canine companion, Tuffy.

The Mass of Christian burial along with services by the Lake Ariel Fire Company will be celebrated on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, Pa.
