David A. Enslin, Sr., 78, of Honesdale, died Saturday night at home surrounded by his family following an illness.  His wife of 56 years is the former Bernice Jennings.

Born in South Canaan, he was the son of the late Herbert and Edith Brooks Enslin.   David attended the South Canaan Consolidated School and was a United States Army veteran.  He had been employed as a mechanic and truck driver.   He was a passionate race car driver.  He ran modifieds and street stocks as the number 78 mainly at Moc A Tec Speedway.  David also loved to bowl.

Surviving are his children Deniece A. Tuttle of Honesdale, Tina M. Warring and her husband Bobby of Honesdale, David A. Enslin, Jr. and his wife Beth of Berwick and Judy L. Clune and her husband Donny of Waymart;  siblings Jane Case of Colorado, Shirley Hodges of Florida, Nancy Kramer of Starrucca, John Enslin of Texas, Donny Enslin of New Jersey, Friend “Joe” Enslin of South Canaan, Mary Trego of Waymart and Eston Enslin of Texas;  daughter in law Alison Enslin of Lake Ariel;  loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by sons Richard and Anthony “Tony” Enslin; grandson Timmy Stanton; siblings Randy Enslin, Perry Enslin and Martha Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. lake Ariel with the Rev. William Rushik, officiating.
